Genet Shanko Dekebo

Genet Shanko Dekebo is an accomplished Data Engineer with a Master of Science in Computer Science and extensive experience in PostgreSQL, data ingestion, scheduling, transformations, visualization, feature extraction, and machine learning modeling. Genet has a strong background in developing scalable end-to-end data engineering pipelines and is particularly skilled in using tools like Airflow, DBT, and various data visualization platforms.

Since November 2012, Genet has been a Lecturer and Researcher at Adama Science and Technology University, where she teaches courses in computer science and software engineering, including MySQL, Python, Java, C++, C#, and requirement analysis. She has also led research and community service projects, notably developing a mobile application that provided COVID-19 information offline and online, supported by a web portal for data collection.

In addition to her academic role, Genet served as a Backend Developer at Yeron Ride PLC from January 2020 to 2021, where she worked on APIs connecting the frontend Yeron-RID application with its database using Node.js and designed the database architecture using MySQL.

Genet’s technical expertise spans software engineering with proficiency in SQL, Python, JavaScript, C++, HTML, and React, alongside scripting languages such as Bash and PowerShell. She is also experienced in MLOps and CI/CD practices, using tools like Git, GitHub, and Docker. Her skills in data scheduling, transformation, and visualization are complemented by her knowledge of platforms like Streamlit, Redash, and Heroku. Genet is passionate about leveraging her skills to drive innovative solutions in data engineering and software development.
