Dr. Gusha Belako Birbirsa began a professional journey at Adola General Hospital as a junior medical practitioner, where he quickly advanced to roles such as medical director and chief executive officer. Dr. Gusha began his academic journey by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine from Adama Science and Technology University, Ethiopia, in 2010.

His leadership skills were evident as he played a key role in implementing national and regional healthcare initiatives, which led to his promotion as Deputy Bureau Head of the Oromia Regional Health Bureau, overseeing the medical services wing. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was instrumental in expanding ICU services to 50 public hospitals and enabling 13 regional hospitals to achieve national recognition through the implementation of the CATCH IT initiative.

Dr. Gusha currently serves as Deputy Bureau Head and Chief of the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Wing, as well as the principal investigator for CDC projects in the Oromia region. His leadership has resulted in significant improvements in case identification, ART cohort growth, and viral load suppression, positively impacting the lives of over 132,000 clients.

Dr. Gusha holds degrees in Leadership (MAL), Public Health (MPH), and Business Administration (MBA), in addition to various diplomas. He is also nearing the completion of an MSc in Data Science at Emerald International College. He is deeply committed to continuous learning and believes in the power of patience, persistence, and perseverance, guided by his faith in one God.
